Community involvement: Century helps local students in need

October 2nd, 2024

Century Credit Union remains involved in the community, with the latest examples being a back-to-school drive we held at our branches and volunteer work we did for a local nonprofit organization.

We collected 501 items and $214.40 for KidSmart from members and employees during a month-long drive to support students from low-income families in need of essential school supplies in the local community.

The majority of the donated items were those in the highest demand – #2 pencils, pocket folders and notebooks. Additional items included glue sticks, crayons, markers, highlighters, reams of loose leaf paper, and more.

For Century, giving back to the community goes beyond holding drives and donating money to charities. It also means our employees giving freely of their time to worthwhile causes. Two teams from here volunteered their time at KidSmart’s warehouse in Maryland Heights, MO, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The first group, comprised of three employees from our loan department and a vice president, unloaded hundreds of boxes of erasers from a trailer, bundled bags of books for classrooms, and sorted through pallets to organize other school supply items on Thursday, Sept. 5.

On the morning of Saturday, Sept. 7, our president, a vice president, two managers and a teller bagged books and distributed school supplies outside to teachers stopping by the warehouse to collect items for their classrooms and students. Free humidifiers, hand sanitizer and other items were also distributed.

A heartfelt thank you to KidSmart for the opportunity to volunteer and for including us in their important mission. To learn more about this nonprofit organization, click here. To learn more about Century’s ongoing involvement in the community, click here.
